About

There are two areas that inspire me, people, I have always had a love of portraits, be they paintings or photographic, though I have also find myself massively inspired by the evolution of machinery, not so much from a functional perspective, but more from the aesthetics of good design.

An idea of perfection to me is that perfect moment of total calm you get from idle machinery in a hanger or warehouse , when there is total silence all but the occasional clicks as metal expands or contracts, you get a perfect moment of light as the sun gives a subtle shard of light through a high window down into the stunning darkness as dust mites catch in that perfect moment of light and sound, the aviation images on this site try to convey that moment as I see it in my eyes, as I feel it in my soul.

I have worked within the creative world for over 30 years with photography and retouching being a big part of that throughout.

My initial roles in the creative industry were back in the days of film photography, doing initial retouching on transparency film using cyan bleaches and dyes to create what is now done predominantly in photoshop, working for London labs such as TRP Slavin and Profile Colour.

I moved into the digital production world from 1996, and moved my photography onto digital from 2005.

The majority of the work on this site has been shot on Phase One medium format with Profoto lighting. I do still occasionally when time permits, shoot on film using either a Mamiya RZ67 Pro ii, Canon 35mm and even some old Zenit’s and Practica cameras.
